In a statement released on their web site, the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, Gil Kerlikowske described his pro-prohibition position in typical Washington reality-challenged logic. According to Kerlikowske neither him or the President are for legalization. He then goes on to say that he does not believe marijuana can be considered a medicine.
This comes only a week after the Justice Department moved to stop federal prosecution of medical marijuana patients making this quiet statement by the ONDCP opposing the move an odd development.
Kerlikowske's statement ended with a warning that in the up coming National Drug Control Strategy report now being written by his office, prohibition with all of it's destructive and costly baggage is still the option the ONDCP favors.
